Anne Robbins – March 6th 2010
We have actually had only a few people return our conference feedback forms to us, which I take as a good sign – if they hadn’t enjoyed themselves, they would have been far more vocal. So this feedback will be rather informal.
I can certainly say that the organisers were most impressed by how your team coped with what was evidently a new sort of event, for them. Queries were dealt with efficiently, and were rapidly put right on the next occasion, eg Marmite for breakfast. Room set-ups were wonderful – your team stayed in the background but did their work quietly and on time, and were unphased by quick changes.
We were especially impressed at how you all coped given that the liason person, Monica, was stricken with flu; it was clear that her hard work writing the room requirements document paid off, but not having her on hand meant that I stepped in, and was not up to speed on all the arrangements. In spite of this, your team did great work. And we were particularly glad of the proactive approach of the team leader on Saturday night who suggested that as you only had a couple of tables booked at the restaurant, we might prefer to eat there rather than in the main suite. It was rather nicer, I thought. He was a particularly calm individual, and clearly capable of dealing with every detail.
The wait staff dealt with our less formal approach of having vegetables in bowls etc. rather than silver service very well. It might be worth reviewing the method of ordering on paper at breakfast or mid-morning; but the hiccups on the Friday were as much down to us as to your team, as we had late arrivals who didn’t indicate their preferences and several who were simply not so well organised as to give their orders. You certainly learned from this.
The food was excellent, and we really appreciated the work your chefs put into making local food so prominent. Thank them especially for the efforts on behalf of vegans, gluten-free, dairy-free, and so on. They might note that vegetarians and vegans need protein, just like meat-eaters: beans, tofu, and nuts are all useful in this regard.
Also, in our group (and perhaps others), even meat-eaters will sometimes prefer veggie or even vegan food, especially when your chefs made it so inviting. Supply, especially of desserts, sometimes seemed like it was a problem, on Thursday and Friday- when your team got the hang of it. We loved your cakes at afternoon tea!
Respondents found the bedrooms and the facilities comfortable or very comfortable, and found it very good value. The children particularly loved the pool and the grounds.
I hope that these comments are a help, and do please let me know if you have any questions at all.
With best wishes!
