Spooky Prison at Lincoln Castle

October 19 2019 to October 27 2019 – 10:00am to 4:00pm @ Lincoln Castle

Lincoln Castle’s Victorian Prison will come to life with tales from the past during October half-term.

Meet the unsavoury characters from inside the Victorian Prison this October half term, the vile Victorians will be sure to give you a fright. Hear ghastly ghost stories and tales of witch trials from the Victorian undertakers themselves.

The Spooky Prison is a fun and family-friendly introduction into the horrible history of the Victorian Era. Children can create their own creepy characters too and take home an origami bat or pipe cleaner spider.

Built by William the Conqueror in 1068, Lincoln Castle has dominated the Lincoln skyline for almost one thousand years. During your visit you can walk the Medieval Walls for stunning views of Lincoln Cathedral and across the city; an audio tour will guide you through the castle’s history.

Inside the Castle walls is the Victorian prison giving an insight into crime and punishment in the Lincoln of the past. Inside the prison you will find the subterranean Magna Carta vault, housing one of only four surviving original copies of Magna Carta, and a small cinema screen to tell you its important story.

Christmas Lights Switch On

November 22 2019 – 4:45pm to 7:30pm @ various locations

Start the countdown to Christmas at the annual fun-packed Christmas Lights Switch On at St Marks Shopping Centre, Lincoln High Street, and Waterside Shopping Centre.

Join in the excitement of the Christmas calendar when Lincoln gets its magic festive feel with the official switch on of the decorative lights throughout the city.

ST MARKS SHOPPING CENTRE
The evening kicks off at St Marks Shopping Centre where children’s entertainment and live music starts from 4:45pm, all hosted by John Marshall from Lincs FM.

The pantomime cast from Lincoln Drill Hall’s Cinderella will be on stage during the evening too with the lights across the centre switching on at 6:30pm.

LINCOLN HIGH STREET
Entertainment on the High Street starts at 4:45pm with entertainers and live music on stage at the War Memorial by St Benedict’s Square, hosted by BBC Radio Lincolnshire (compere to be confirmed).

The cast of New Theatre Royal’s Robin Hood, including star Melinda Messenger, will be joined by the Mayor and Civic Party from the procession at 6:40pm with the lights switching on at 7:10pm.

WATERSIDE SHOPPING CENTRE
The evening entertainment finishes at the Waterside Shopping Centre where dancers, choirs, and performances from the city’s Christmas theatre productions will start at 6pm, hosted by BBC Radio Lincolnshire’s Carla Greene.

Star of New Theatre Royal’s Robin Hood, Melinda Messenger, will switch the lights on at the centre at 7:30pm, then will be available to meet and sign signatures.

FREE CHRISTMAS PARKING AND LATE NIGHT CHRISTMAS SHOPPING
Parking is free for the evening making it easy to come into the city for the switch on. You can park at St Marks Shopping Centre for free from 4pm (no need to display anything), or City of Lincoln Council car parks across the city from 4pm when using the PayByPhone app. Lincoln Central Car Park is also free to park in from 4pm – use the normal ticket machines and exit for free.
Plus make the most of the trip to Lincoln with many shops across the city centre staying open late til 8pm for Christmas shopping (if you do plan to visit a particular shop please contact the business to check their opening times as they are subject to change).

November 30 2019 to December 1 2019 – 9:00am to 6:00pm @ Lincolnshire Showground

A mix of delicious local produce, gift stalls and workshops make the Food and Gift fair at the Lincolnshire Showground the best way to kick start your Christmas preparations.

The Lincolnshire Food & Gift Fair is a festive weekend packed full of fun for all of the family. Now in its 19th year, it’s one of the biggest in the county – and it’s all indoors!

Shop unique gifts, handmade crafts and delicious treats with over 150 exhibitors and pick up everything you need for your Christmas celebrations.

The Lincolnshire Kitchen will be brought to life with top chefs and producers sharing their top tips to help you cook up a festive feast and samples to try – of course!

And experience all of this whilst enjoying live performances from a number of talented local choirs alongside a bite to eat from one of our delicious hot food stands.

The annual event, held across two indoor halls and with free car parking, promises Christmas treats and festive inspiration for all of the family.

Robin Hood

December 3 2019 to January 5 2020 – 11:00am to 9:00pm @ New Theatre Royal

Lincoln’s longest running traditional Christmas pantomime is set to be a real adventure this season, full of laughs, boos, and audience participation for all the family to enjoy at the New Theatre Royal.

Robin Hood will be filled with high energy dance routines, outstanding vocalists, comedy and of course added surprises in the script for those stand out ‘wow’ moments.

Starring as Fairy Stardust is TV presenter Melinda Messenger – rising to fame during the 1980s when she modelled for various artistes and designers including Vivienne Westwood, Melinda has become a popular TV presenter (Fort Boyard To Buy or Not To Buy, Bingo Night Live, Cowboy Builders) and guest on radio and daytime TV.

Joining Melinda, Barney Harwood returns to Lincoln as the brave hero Robin Hood. A favourite from last year’s pantomime Snow White, where he played the Huntsman, Barney will be back but this time he will have his trusty bow and arrow. Winner of a Children’s BAFTA for Best Presenter, he was a CBBC regular from 2002 – 2017, presenting shows including Prank Patrol, Smile, Bear Behaving Badly, and Blue Peter.

Back by popular demand, Chris Johnson will play Will Scarlet. CBBC’s “Yonko” presented on the CBBC Channel from 2010 – 2016, and voiced Dennis the Menace in Dennis the Menace and Gnasher (2013). Chris has appeared in every Christmas and Easter pantomime at the New Theatre Royal since Cinderella in 2017, establishing him as a firm favourite with Lincoln pantomime audiences.

Rounding up the star casting is Zoe Hedge as Maid Marian. Zoe appeared on The Voice UK (2017) as one half of the duo Capital B, who were chosen to be on Sir Tom Jones’ team.

Lincoln Christmas Market 2019

December 5 2019 to December 8 2019 – All Day @ Lincoln Cathedral Quarter

Stalls, performers, and festive cheer take over Lincoln’s Cathedral Quarter for four days of festive entertainment, shopping, and food and drink.

Visitors to the famous Lincoln Christmas Market will be sure to soak up the festive atmosphere across this large market site, with more than 280 stalls nestled in and around Lincoln Castle, Lincoln Cathedral, and many other venues and streets along the way.

There is something for everyone, from unusual gifts to food and drink from near and far, not to mention a whole host of entertainment for all the family to enjoy.

Cinderella

Jamie Marcus Productions, in association with Lincoln Drill Hall, presents their 2019 panto ‘Cinderella’ – the most magical of all pantos.

Following the 2018 sell out production of ‘Peter Pan’, this production has all your favourite characters including Prince Charming, The Fairy Godmother, The Wicked Step Sisters and of course the beautiful Cinderella.

Back for the third year, and by popular demand, Adam Fox as the loveable and hilarious ‘Buttons’.

With spectacular special effects, well known songs and hilarious comedy, this show has all the traditional elements of a wonderful family panto.

Cinderella is the most popular of all fairy tales bringing together all of the magical elements that audiences, young and old, love and this spectacular festive production is sure to be another sell out.

Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without the Drill Hall panto.

Eight evenings of Christmas delights within the medieval walls of Lincoln Castle for a festive celebration of arts, crafts, and food – the perfect setting to meet friends and family over the Christmas period.

A spectacular Victorian inspired Light Show will form the centre of the Christmas Emporium with an extraordinary illumination and soundtrack filling each evening with a sprinkling of Christmas magic.
